Daily News - 30th and 31st August 2011 - 3DS Ambassadors and Mass Effect 3

3DS Ambassador Program In Full Effect - Free Games!

If you were lucky (or unlucky, depending on your outlook) enough to own a 3DS and go online with it before the price drop, then you automatically became a 3DS "Ambassador". Nintendo promised you'd be vindicated for your smart (or dumb) consumerism by throwing free games at you! Yay! The first batch are available now, a selection of 10 NES games, currently bare bones but to be updated with extra functionality later:

  • Wrecking Crew
  • NES Open Tournament Golf
  • Mario & Yoshi
  • Donkey Kong Jr.
  • Balloon Fight
  • Ice Climbers
  • Super Mario Bros.
  • Metroid
  • The Legend of Zelda
  • Zelda II: The Adventure of Link

I'm sure you'll agree, any promotion which gets you free copies of Metroid, The Legend Of Zelda and Super Mario Bros. is a good one in anybody's book. The way you go about getting the games is a little odd though, so pay attention:

To receive your free games go to the 3DS store and go to the far left, selecting the settings option. Once in the settings, go to the section for "Titles You've Downloaded" and give it a clicky click. Notice that there's exactly 10 extra games on that list, seemingly out of nowhere? There's your Ambassador games! Donwload them, enjoy them, brag to your friends they were all free!

No word yet on the full list of GBA games, but as soon as I know, you'll know.

Donkey Kong Jr. - Obviously still a looker

Mass Effect 3 Will Mark The End Of Commander Shepard's Storyline

As Mass Effect 3 approaches, and my anticipation reaches dangerous levels I'm filled with excitement and sadness in equal measure, especially because Dr. Ray Muzyka from Bioware came out and said that this will be the last game to feature Commander Shepard, but that the Mass Effect universe will live on:

We have ambitious plans to continue this franchise going forward. Mass Effect 3 is simultaneously a couple of different things: a thrilling and epic conclusion to the trilogy as we promised our fans we'd provide for Commander Shepard, but it's also a brand new beginning - it's an entry point for new fans.

In effect this is the very definition of bittersweet, on the one hand, knowing there will be more Mass Effecgt after 3 is saliva-inducing news, but knowing I'll never again get to play as the galactic badass that is Shepard makes me as flacid as overcooked spaghetti. I can't wait to see the journey through for a bunch of characters that I've devoted hundreds of hours of my life to nurturing, levelling up and, well, just chatting to. It can't come soon enough, it really can't.

Fuck shit uuuuuuuuuup!!!
